Camille Rose Garcia

Camille Rose Garcia is an amazing artist who’s paintings are truly something to behold. I would describe her use of color as distressed 50’s retro, but her subject matter is in a world of it’s own.

Snagt

Snagt.net features the work of an artist named Pyhai. There is a neat, whimsical, cartoonish feel to her work that I find appealing. I think you will too, check it out if you have a few minutes.

Son of DaVinci

Son of DaVinci features the excellent artwork of Micah J. Gunnell. The user interface on his site is interesting in and of itself. Make sure to browse through the Inks and Colors and Sequentials sections of his site. Good stuff.

Joe Sorren

Joe Sorren has some wonderful paintings and bronze sculpture on his site that is really worth paying a visit to. The exaggerated features on many of his subject’s faces really appeals to me, and his mastery of the difficult task of drawing/painting the human hand is striking. Check it out.

M.C. Escher

I have loved Escher’s work from the first moment I saw it as a young man. I am sure that sentiment is pretty universal and that everyone on Earth is familiar with his work. If not, his official site is linked below.

I found it interesting that the entire Wiki article (linked below) on Escher failed to mention the term “Surrealist”. Conversely, the term “Surrealism” fails to mention Escher as well. Yet he is very well known as one of the great Surrealist artists from the post-Dada era. Other sites on the Web seem to verify this idea, but perhaps there is some debate or technicality that I am not aware of. Any proper Art Historians out there feel free to educate me on this one? To my eyes his later work would appear to be firmly and undeniably rooted in the Surrealist camp.

In any case, Escher’s was a true genius who’s work everyone should contemplate. Go see visit the official site.

Isabel Samaras

Isabel Samaras is a tremendous painter and illustrator with a particular talent for portraiture. Her site is a wealth of interesting and unusual images. Check it.

By the way, if you happen to be lucky enough to be in the NYC area (sadly I am not), she is having a showing at the one and only Jonathan LeVine Gallery.

Gary Taxali

I first remember coming across Gary Taxali’s work in Rolling Stone. It definitely caught my attention. I really like the way his work has an unfinished and raw quality. (Not unlike this review.) Check out his site.

khang Lee has some truly beautiful and amazing paintings on his site, many of the “concept-art” variety. He has a strong ability to suggest his forms rather than always recording every detail. Well worth a visit.

Jordan Isip

Jordan Isip is a multimedia artist who’s work is definitely worth checking out. There is a certain iconic quality to his illustrations that I find to be very engaging. See if you don’t agree.

As an aside, I see by reading his bio that he is teaching at Parsons School of Design. Several years ago my wife was lucky enough to attend the Parsons branch in Paris for a summer. I am still envious of her for that to this day. :P

Alex Gross

One of my favorite artists (recently discovered) would have to be Alex Gross. I find his work to be truly captivating and worthy of attention. He mixes classic 20’s inspired commercial art styles with modern day themes. The kind of work that is better seen than described by me, so go there now if you can spare a few.
[inline:alex_gross.jpg]
