Ear Hornets From Hell

One time, years ago, while in the middle of a two-month tour of the U.S. with my band (at the time) I got an amazingly fierce ear-infection. Eventually it got so bad that I had to go to the hospital (all they gave me was some antibiotics). I was actually drawing this while in extreme agony. It is a fairly accurate representation of what I was experiencing at the time.

I’ve always had a hard time drawing women, an area that I still very much need to work on.

The Scribe

A scribble-laden sketch that I came across recently. Colorized last night, I am pleased with the result. There are some words buried in the scribbling, I identified it as an old Dead Can Dance lyric: Severance…the birds of leaving call to us…”

Manic Depression

A quick watercolor which I did a few years ago. I updated it tonight when an idea hit me to modify the painting. By splitting the image into two halves, it better reflects the duality found with bipolar disorder, a.k.a. “manic depression”.

I have known or met a few people with various degrees of this condition over the years. The severe highs and lows of the mood swings can be tough to deal with for all concerned.

I believe it was the combination of the wild-eyed figure and the jack-in-the-box pop-up monster that made my mind draw a parallel to this issue. In any case, this new incarnation of the piece works well I think.

A tribute to the late, great Jalacy J. Hawkins, A.K.A “Screamin’ Jay Hawkins”. One of two with this theme. When coloring this there where so many amazing color combinations that looked equally interesting, so I may have to run with it sometime and post an entire series.

A stock U.S. military promotional picture was first converted to line-art in Streamline 4, background was knocked out, then red/black vector sun rays where added to the new background to create an old-fashioned pseudo-Chinese-propaganda look. One of two pieces in this same vein.
