Digital Art: 2D

This is something I've been noodling with lately. It has a certain dorky charm and bright colors appeal that I find vaguely amusing for some reason.

I have tons of ideas right now and no time to get them out. Must...focus...

I've been messing around in Illustrator a lot lately. I am somewhat intrigued by this little abstract illustration that I've been working on and so I decided to post it.

I've been doing a lot of vector illustration stuff lately. I know it's hopelessly trendy at the moment but I still can't get enough of it, when it's done well.

I've been messing around in Illustrator a lot lately...branching out, trying new things, taking some tutorials, etc. This is something I was working on yesterday. I am itching to start drawing more in Illustrator, not for work stuff like I usually do but more along the lines of the bizarre/unusual stuff that you might find here at the GB.

This is an old sketch reworked tonight in Photoshop. Hidden message in the illustration reads "Kill your television before it kills you". That has to be my motto most nights if I expect to get anything creative done. Television, although sometimes a welcome retreat, ultimately is the great anti-motivator.

Second in the Red Rays series. Created on the same day and using the same process as described here.

A stock U.S. military promotional picture was first converted to line-art in Streamline 4, background was knocked out, then red/black vector sun rays where added to the new background to create an old-fashioned pseudo-Chinese-propaganda look. One of two pieces in this same vein.

I was messing around in Photoshop recently with the pen tablet, with somewhat interesting results. I wish the figure didn’t have just a bad haircut and such a train-wreck looking face. But I do like some of the textures and background effects (not that I’d use them again necessarily). I should update this in my copious spare time…

Second in the Warhol tribute series. I took my charcoal drawing and colorized it to emulate a silk-screen effect. Flat-colors where chosen and layed down in two slightly-offset layers to convey the impression of a printing registration error.  read more »
