Mixed Media/Hybrid

A new work that I was finally able to scan in (my new scanner is here, setup easily and is working great!). The figure was sketched, then inked with Letraset and PrismaColor markers. The background is a taken from a series of macro-photos I took several years ago and then tweaked/enhanced in PhotoShop CS3.

I sketched this character a short while ago and then recently did some color work on it. Not finished, but saving this snapshot of it.

Sometimes I would draw dragons when I was a kid. Yes, I even played D&D and yes it was nerdy. I have to admit I can draw a pretty mean dragon though, when inspired. All that said, this one is more whimpering than mean. Apparently that can happen when a spear is impaled in your belly.

This piece, as well as A Wild Thing (R2) represent a somewhat new technique with my art. Although I have regularly incorporated photography into my professional graphic design work for years, I very rarely incorporate photos into my personal, non-commercial art (as seen at Gallery Bizarre). Something I did today from a recent sketch. Original is in black and white, color work and effects added digitally.

An old mixed media painting, based in acrylic with Life magazine cutout. Second in the “Branch Being” series. Yes, that is the real title of the piece and no, it cannot be shortened. That simply is the only name that makes sense for it.

Another oldy-but-weirdy, featuring a bizarre hybrid of a surrealistic painting with a couple of images from an issue of Life magazine dated in the 50's.

This is the result of a session messing around in Photoshop many, many years ago. One of the first times I remember scanning in an illustration and then going nuts with it in PS. I almost like the result.
