Busy, busy, busy is what I've been lately. I felt like drawing though so I had to wrestle my Wacom back from my lovely wife. Of course, in order to do so I had to exchange it (temporarily, until we decide to by a third, larger tablet) with a much smaller stand-in tablet that I picked up on eBay for cheap. I guess we are now both officially addicted to our drawing tablets.

This is NOT a self portrait or a picture of anyone that I know by the way. As usual, it's just another doodle to emerge from my noggin. Inspiration unknown.

Road Rage (Same Great Taste)

I originally thought of naming this one "Same Great Taste" because then it would be funny and ironic because of this figure's expression. But then the more I looked at it, the more mad the guy looked, so I went with "Road Rage" instead.
Of course, then I realized that "Road Rage (Same Great Taste) was funny and mad at the same time. So clearly I had to go with that. Enjoy this really, really old sketch that I found in a sketchbook so old that it might as well have been made of papyrus.

Keeper of the Nerd-Utility-Belt

This drawing is based on someone that I (used to) have to interact with on a regular basis. He always had several gadgets hanging off his belt (large PDA in a hanging belt-case, ratchet-phone case, etc), because he was convinced someone would steal his crap if he left it at his workstation. One day I drew this caricature of him to amuse myself. Enjoy.

A recent doodle. Not sure of the inspiration (if any), but I like the mad expression on this little rug-demon. Also unsure if I will develop this further, but it's off to a funny head start.

A Wild Thing (R2)

This image is related to the "A Wild Thing" post of last week. The "(R2)" in the title relates to the revision state of the piece (in this case, the image has been updated, a background has been added), as well as being the second "release" or publication of the image. Site News: A new feature to the site that I have just implemented and which I have just partially illustrated above is relationship-management of images. Although this existed before via the "Related Links" feature, that was a manual process, whereas this new way is automatic. Now "Related Links" are for external links only, as origianlly intended.

The new "Related Works" feature adds the ability for art-works descended from other works (derivative works) or work-in-progress snapshots to be linked-together. In other words, this allows me to freeze various copies of artwork at different phases of completion rather than just overwriting the old copy as I had done in the past. You get to view the image at each step of the way as well, and (if registered) may comment on the various stages, ask questions, etc. I think it will be interesting to watch the evolution and process of art pieces this way.

How to use this new feature: Below the vote area there is now a section that appears titled "Related Works". This will list the type of related media (for now which is blog entry or image) and then link to the piece. The best part: the links connect both ways, so each related work is aware of the other's existence. Enjoy this cool new feature!

A Wild Thing

This sketch wants to stomp right off of the page, apparently. This reminds me of Maurice Sendak's Where The Wild Things Are. I always loved that book as a kid. I may have to develop this further.

Aged Rockstar

Something that I was messing with earlier tonight. This is far from finished and needs some serious work at the sketch level. Despite all this I still kind of like his cackling expression.

I think I may do a whole series along these lines, with a theme celebrating has-beens and burn-outs. I feel inspired.

Something I was working on earlier tonight. The drawing isn’t finished yet, but I like the digital color work, so maybe it will stop here as it is. Time will tell.

Birdman

This is hot off the press, something I just finished sketching the other night. The central character looks OK when heavily downsampled to a JPEG, but the background looks so exquisite in the uncompressed version that it’s a shame to see it completely pixelated and lost in this “Web-friendly” version. :(

In fact, I am really butchering these images by posting everything at such low quality. This picture just really underlined that point for me. I am starting to think about re-uploading everything one image at a time at about twice the quality they are currently at. Maybe I will get around to that this weekend…

*update* Re-upp’d everything, increased thumbnail sizes to much larger preview images, cleaned up URL’s from paths like “node/123” to “artwork”.

Bald Guy

I came across this in one of my sketchpads recently… the face looks so familiar. Did I subconciously rip this character from something else I’ve seen? Hmmmm…anyway, he looks like he a good start on a comic character.
