“A Lesson Is Learned, But The Damage Is Irreversible” Regrettably the creators of this site (Dale Beran, writer and David Hellman, artist) are now on hiatus, however, the layout and art to be found at this site is highly stylistic and in general, really interesting. The archives alone are worth the price of admission.
 

One of my favorite artists (recently discovered) would have to be Alex Gross. I find his work to be truly captivating and worthy of attention. He mixes classic 20’s inspired commercial art styles with modern day themes. The kind of work that is better seen than described by me, so go there now if you can spare a few.
 

Great web comic with some very funny dialogue. The art style is minimalist but wildly inventive. Worth a click or six.
 

Comic stip dating back to ‘98 of a “boy on a stick” (literally, a boy’s head at the end of a two by four) and his friend “slither” (a very large green snake. Definitely qualifies for the “Seal of Bizarreness”.
 

Camille Rose Garcia is an amazing artist who’s paintings are truly something to behold. I would describe her use of color as distressed 50’s retro, but her subject matter is in a world of it’s own.

I really identify with Chris Mars and his work. Not only because we are both former drummers of punk/indie rock bands but also because we both paint very bizarre paintings with more than a hint of morbidity to them. When you stare at Mars’ work you know that you are submerged deep into a vat demented genius. Check out his site.

Diane Fenster creates digital photomontages that are at once striking and appealing to the eye. Her Photoshop work and commercial illustrations are well known in the graphic design industry and her fine art exhibits are not to be dismissed. Highly recommended viewing.  read more »

Amazing stylized pixel-art with an indie-rock soundtrack. (Does it get any better?) Diesel Sweeties tells the tales of a girl’s love of her robot, etc.
 

Hilarious comic entirely consisting of 6 repeated panels of rampaging dinosaurs with varying snappy dialogue. Very “Onion-esque”. I like.
 

Edvard Munch (1863-1944) is one of the great and very well-known masters among the Symbolists/Expressionists. His is the artist that created the work "The Scream" AKA "The Cry". A highly recognizable painting of the period.  read more »

Elsie Hooper is a long running (since 2002) newspaper comic written and illustrated by Bob Krzykowski with a very dark storyline.

If you’re unfamiliar with it, go to the archives and start at the beginning. It draws you in pretty quickly.

“hi my name is sam, i draw pictures, from your titles.” And that’s exactly what he does. Very cool stick-figure art. With a nice, slightly psycho feel. I dig it.
 

“Sexy Robots and Violent Cyberpunks Webcomic”. If that tagline isn’t enough for you then a more in-depth description is unlikely to move you either.

Fabricari is the fine work of Steve “Fabricari” Harrison and co-writer Adam White. I like Steve’s art quite a bit and I recommend taking some time to browse through his image galleries. Good stuff - check it out.

I first remember coming across Gary Taxali’s work in Rolling Stone. It definitely caught my attention. I really like the way his work has an unfinished and raw quality. (Not unlike this review.) Check out his site.

Isabel Samaras is a tremendous painter and illustrator with a particular talent for portraiture. Her site is a wealth of interesting and unusual images. Check it.

By the way, if you happen to be lucky enough to be in the NYC area (sadly I am not), she is having a showing at the one and only Jonathan LeVine Gallery.

Joe Sorren has some wonderful paintings and bronze sculpture on his site that is really worth paying a visit to. The exaggerated features on many of his subject’s faces really appeals to me, and his mastery of the difficult task of drawing/painting the human hand is striking. Check it out.

Jordan Isip is a multimedia artist who’s work is definitely worth checking out. There is a certain iconic quality to his illustrations that I find to be very engaging. See if you don’t agree.  read more »

khang Lee has some truly beautiful and amazing paintings on his site, many of the “concept-art” variety. He has a strong ability to suggest his forms rather than always recording every detail. Well worth a visit.

The Plankton Art Co. is a very talented duo comprised of Susan and Allen Crawford. Much like ye ol’ Riddle Design Works, this husband and wife team has painted, illustrated, sculpted and designed many an art piece together. Well worth a visit.
 

This weekly-updated Web comic by Greg Dean has been running since ‘99. Cool art style blending R.L. and comic styles, with good R.L. dialogue. Aptly named, and recommended.
 

I have always loved this twisted newspaper comic by Max Cannon.

Here you can find not only the latest Red Meat strips, but also vast quantities of the stuff in the Meat Locker. A must-see site.

Richard Pose has some good illustrations and comics on his site that you might want to check out. The navigation on his site seemed broken in places, so if you get stuck, I’ve listed links both to the main page and the comics section as well.
 

Scary Go Round is John Allison’s popular and long running web comic. Allison is very prolific, posting an entire page of comics (of several detailed and colored panels each) daily on his site. Indulge yourself a few clicks to see what all the hype is about.
 

For several years I have been a big fan of the art of Josh Agle (better known as Shag). He is a painter/illustrator/designer with a very cool retro/vector/flat-art style to his work. He does the Tiki Torch/mod scooter thing to perfection. I highly recommend you check out his site. Shag is Go!
 

Shepard Fairey is probably best known for his "Obey" pseudo-propaganda campaign as seen not only in hipster bars of Seattle but also in select locations worldwide.

Not everyone will agree on whether or not his art is great, but it certainly does make for a good conversation vis-a-vis the famous old question "what is art?". Check out his site and tell me what you think.  read more »

Sigilation, meaning a “transformation of ordinary items into an image or object possessing innate magical powers” is an apt term to encapsulate the incredible art created by Nicole McConville.

Nicole creates intricate shrines out of old photographs, bird skulls, gears, bees wax and other such delightful items for an overall effect that is as stunning as it is melancholy.  read more »

Snagt.net features the work of an artist named Pyhai. There is a neat, whimsical, cartoonish feel to her work that I find appealing. I think you will too, check it out if you have a few minutes.

Son of DaVinci features the excellent artwork of Micah J. Gunnell. The user interface on his site is interesting in and of itself. Make sure to browse through the Inks and Colors and Sequentials sections of his site. Good stuff.

Stephen Gilpin is a fantastic painter, illustrator and comic artist with a very cool style to his work that I really like. Pay his site a visit, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
 

Another great web comic with good style and edgy dialogue. I really like Liz Greenfield’s color work and the controlled quadtone palettes she uses. Check out the site!

Murphy’s Original Stupid Creatures. Artist John Murphy and assistant Ian Dennis make very cool sock-monsters for sale. They also do custom orders. Make sure you browse through the Gallery. Worth checking out, do so!

McPherson’s done a lot of incredible poster art for some excellent, top-shelf bands. All of the stuff on her site is worth a looksee, but her posters are definitely worth a trip alone. Don’t make me tell you twice!

Flash comics and animated shorts that are frequently so stupid it hurts, but you may very well find yourself laughing out loud anyway. Check it out, make sure to watch a “Rock Video” or two as well as the Cartoons.

One of my favorite artists of all time would have to be Todd Schorr. His site is a wealth of images, each more fascinating and fantastic than the last. Resistance is futile, you will bow to the genius that is Schorr’s twisted creations. Go there now.

Tomer and Asaf are twin brothers of unimaginable talent, brilliance, and illustrative prowess. In addition to their solo illustration work, they have created a series of five (so far) experimental comic books together titled Bipolar. Very highly recommended.  read more »
